Feeding Frenzy 2New Sea-Based Survival Game Sports New and Improved Features, Fish and Storyline

PopCap Games, a leading developer and publisher of casual games, has released Feeding Frenzy 2, the sequel to the original game in which the player takes on the role of a fast-growing fish who must grow from guppy to goliath while avoiding bigger fish, birds of prey and other dangers. Originally developed by Sprout Games, which was acquired by PopCap in 2005, Feeding Frenzy garnered numerous accolades following its introduction in 2004.

Ed Allard, former co-founder and creative director at Sprout Games and now senior producer at PopCap, oversaw the design and development of Feeding Frenzy 2, just as he did with its predecessor. “Feeding Frenzy was a fun game to make and obviously a lot of fun to play, and making the sequel was even more fun in many ways,” Allard stated. “With more resources, more creative input and no deadline by which to complete Feeding Frenzy 2, we were able to really focus on improving key gameplay elements while adding a host of new character abilities, enemies, powerups, effects and the like. And with all-new scenery, better graphics and a wild new storyline, Feeding Frenzy 2 offers as much enjoyment for the novice player as it does for veterans of the original game.”

In Feeding Frenzy 2, you start as a tiny fish striving for ocean supremacy in a sea full of predators. Eat your way to the top of the food chain, from tiny butterfly fish to a great white shark. A new storyline finds the ocean in chaos, with some fish species missing and others out of place. Assume the role of six different fish on your mission to discover the cause of the problem and defeat it in order to save the sea. A wide range of new creatures (both friendly and unfriendly), power-ups, super abilities and food provide surprises around every coral.

New features in Feeding Frenzy 2 include:

  • 20 stunning new fish including 10 new species and 10 classics from Feeding Frenzy 1
  • 5 new creatures and obstacles including pelicans, bugs and bioluminescent plankton
  • 8 all new environments, from sunken ships to beautiful reefs and deep-sea caves
  • New “Midnight Zone” levels – use Edie’s illuminating lure to light your way
  • New water surface levels where you can leap out of the ocean to catch bugs and power-ups, do back-flips for style points, and more
  • 6 new playable fish, including Boris the Butterfly fish, Goliath the Great White Shark and a mystery bonus fish (unlocked after completing the game)
  • 2 Exciting game modes: Story and Time Attack
  • A host of new power-ups including Shield Fish, Loony Lures, and Shrink Shrooms
  • Enhanced high resolution graphics
  • All new soundtrack
  • Lots of new fish ranks, fun facts, and more

Beezzle

BeezzleAlawar Entertainment, a leading publisher of downloadable games for the PC, has announced the online release of Beezzle. Your goal: help a hive of honeybees raise their young.

Each stage of this match-3 puzzler consists of a honeycomb packed with different colors of nectar. In Beezzle’s brain-teasing Puzzle Mode, you must turn one or more pupae into adult workers by guiding them to the honey they need to grow. You help the young insects reach the wholesome nourishment by swapping them with adjacent nectar drops and creating matches of three or more objects of the same color.

In Beezzle’s mouth-watering Action Mode, you must first create and then gather a specific number of honey candies. As you match drops of nectar, a status bar fills with honey. When it’s full, you create a piece of candy that must be included in a match before times runs out.

Beezzle offers:

  • Unique match-three gameplay
  • Both action and puzzle modes of play
  • Choose easy, normal or hard difficulty levels
  • The game automatically saves your progress after each level
  • Point-and-click simplicity
  • 300 challenging levels

Quick Review: Beezzle offers yet another variation on the match-three puzzle theme exemplified by such classics as Jewel Quest. The beehive setting has some charm, and the interface is smooth and responsive. The graphics and sound in this game are no more than average, but they are adequate. Though the level of difficulty seemed cast a bit too high, even at the “easy” level, the gameplay is quick, fun, and addictive. With 3 game modes and 11 different types of bonuses (such as bombs and rockets) spread out over 300 game levels, there’s easily enough to keep someone busy for a good long while.

Mystery Case Files: Huntsville Hits Record Sales

Posted March 21, 2006 @ 9:14 pm - Filed under: News

Mystery Case Files: HuntsvilleMystery Case Files: Huntsville has sold over $1 million worth of digitally distributed copies in under three months, according to Big Fish Studios, developers of the game, and is poised to double its current sales in the next three to six months, as it is still the number one best seller on most of the top casual game portals.

Mystery Case Files: Huntsville is a unique episodic detective puzzle game with noir themed setting, stunning artwork, and unique game play progression. The game is addictive, but not stressful, simple to understand, but deep enough to keep playing for months. “The game was conceived to be episodic with an over-arching mystery that transcends a single episode in the same manner as the hit TV series ‘24,’ ‘Lost,’ or the 90s classic ‘X-Files,’” said Patrick Wylie, Vice President of Big Fish Studios. “Things should really heat up when customers realize this is more than a one-episode game when we release Mystery Case Files: Prime Suspects next month.”

“The success of Mystery Case Files really took me by surprise,” said Adrian Woods, Lead Developer for the Mystery Case Files games. “I was hoping it would have legs so I could continue the adventure. With its runaway success, we now have an incredible opportunity to focus on making the next episode, Prime Suspects, even more exciting with greater depth and some great new features and plot twists.”

Mystery Case Files: Prime Suspects is due for release in mid-April.
